Advance Reviews - 'Angel" and 'the greedy heart'

Advance Praise for

"Angel" and

"The Greedy Heart"
(November 1, 2008 release)

'Angel' reads like words of forgiveness from a god to his son. I know it is deeply personal, but it could have been written to express the hopes of this nation.

Exquisite...

Worldclass...

the way poetry should be read...

the new Edgar Allen Poe...

you write what I have no words for...

beautiful...

easy to forget that beneath your usual vocal effects and masks is a performer of extraordinary caliber...it feels like a gift to hear you read unadorned.

Baucis and Philemon will be my anthem of love, thank you.

I wish Angel was written for me.

The Map of your Heart is what it is all about!...

It took me days to recover from the greedy heart.

her reading of Monster is bone chilling, not until near the end, when she begins to reveal glimpses of the humanity that lives within the monster does the piece change from a horrific cant worthy of Poe, to an epic tale of infinite loss and caution...brilliant.
(Jackson Willet, DarkCorners)

The dreams of bees, there is power there, this will get lots of play.
(Most Vocal Poets Society, Canada)

"What's your Tribe? The one who speaks the words of longing you didn't even know existed inside you, or the one that scares the pants off you with the mirror that she holds up that reveals your dark potential. Just perfect..."(James Duckworth)

"Put your hand out, let Cassandra Tribe walk you though this journey. She will be your reflection on this trip to reality. "Angel," Tribe's new collection of poetry explores the human condition, from the painful ebb and flow of love to the uncertainty of living in a world where "Our poets are silent/Our singers drunk." Tribe, spoken word artist and philosopher, lends her audience a didactic and Humanistic view of the world, whether it is through her poetry, essays or her daily blog. One stand-out poem by Tribe, the epic-length "Monster," urges readers to face the harsh reality that comes with being irresponsible in life - the false gods and monsters created by blind acceptance." (Vagner Revol, Poet Tree Magazine)

"The book, "The Greedy Heart". contains all the pieces on the cd and twelve others, including the acerbic title piece. Yet it is her version of Ovid's morality tale, Baucis and Philemon, that takes center stage. Perhaps one of the best contemporary versions ever written, Tribe doesn't bother retelling the tale (except in an author's note) she plunges into the very last moment of their lives and reveals the inner secrets of their hearts. In her hands it becomes possible to have the kind of love that creates a story that will be told until the end of time. The ability she gives her audience to hold her words and listen to them is an experience that begins to allow the layers of her meaning to come to the fore." (A. Baumgarden, New World Review)

“’The Way of the Heart’ poetry of Rumi” by TAMIR (Spiritual/Spoken Word Artist from New York (NY))

"'The Way of the Heart' poetry of Rumi" is a spoken word album by TAMIR, narrator; Amir Vahab, music that brings the insight of the thirteenth century mystical poet back to life. Narrated by the smooth, sultry, and theatrical voice of voiceover artist TAMIR and accompanied by spiritual and befitting backing music by Persian multi-instrumentalist Amir Vahab, this release celebrates Rumi's wisdom on ten penetrable tracks. These stories and poems offer commentaries and teachings on spirituality, divine love, and the mystery of love. "The Way of the Heart" is well-recorded; TAMIR's spoken word delivery is clean and Vahab's instrumentals sound precise and balanced. "Gamble" is a great story about paradox and risk in the game of love, with the inspiring lyric, "Gamble everything for love, if you're a true human being." "Separation" has frantic poetry delivered by TAMIR matched by frantic acoustic instrumental work from Vahab. "Sacrifice" is a poem about a conversation between a chickpea and a chef that comments on the predestination and liveliness of the chickpea. "The Way of the Heart" is an excellent release 800 years in the making, and anyone who marvels at the insightfulness and mysticism of Rumi are going to want to pick "'The Way of the Heart' poetry of Rumi" up.

“Viva Mayday” by Viva Mayday (Rap Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Viva Mayday with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Viva Mayday"

"Viva Mayday" is the politically charged self-titled debut from reggae rock outfit Viva Mayday. A typical rock three piece – guitar, bass and drums – Viva Mayday rely heavily upon the upstroke to create their classic reggae sound. They also incorporate punk and classic rock elements into their music, showing their musical talent and diversity. The lead singer's vocals are uniformly in the style of traditional reggae and fused with a variety of musical styles, Viva Mayday show likeliness to Bob Marley, Dispatch, The Clash and Sublime at different points on the album. All the while, their lyrics are reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine. Viva Mayday's songs are jam-packed with socially aware, politically charged lyrics that exploit the bands disgruntledness, for the most part, with American foreign policy. "Viva Mayday" is also well-produced, sure to keep both the music and lyrics polished and audible. "Fidel" opens with an incredible Hendrix-style guitar solo as they sing about "the war machine" and "propane democracy." "Missionaries" reflects the "give peace a chance" mentality of the entire album with a Marley-esque vocal, suggesting that even the people that mean perfectly well are struggling to survive abroad. "1963 Motorcade" is a song about the assassination of JFK and conspiracy theories against the government. "Viva Mayday" is certainly opinionated and controversial. If you enjoy what Rage Against the Machine offers lyrically and punk-infused reggae rock, you should give this album a listen.

“Feed the Need” by Feed the Need (Pop Artist from Long Island, New York(NY))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Feed the Need with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Feed the Need"

"Feed the Need" is an enjoyable self-titled rock album with surf rock and jazz elements from Feed the Need. Though all four band members are still in high school, Feed the Need has crafted an album that displays their strong musical capabilities on guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. The vocals are youthful and the lyrics are full of angst, as many of the songs are undoubtedly about the girls they obsess over at their schools. Nevertheless, you'll find yourself bobbing your head to the beat and singing along with the catchy choruses, agreeing that "Weirdness makes the world go 'round." The title track "Feed the Need" is well recorded and allows these youngsters to be heard to their full potential. "Light Up My World" has great keyboard and guitar progressions at the introduction and a catchy chorus to boot. The highlight of the album is "Without Words," which is an instrumental jam session with great bass and keyboard lines and an impressive guitar solo showcasing the band's musical finesse. Anyone who enjoys quirky, youthful surf rock should check out this fine album.

“Allergic to Gravity” by Thomas Hutchings (Electronica Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

"Allergic to Gravity" is a unique jazz-tronica album from New York City saxophonist/electronic music composer Thomas Hutchings. This album is all about making original, good music. Hutchings' songs originate with the synthesizer, programmed beats, and various electronica elements, forming the base for all the tracks. Then he dubs live instruments, including percussion, creative guitar, funky bass, sax, flute, clarinet, and trumpet over it to complete the arrangement. Some tracks are jazz-heavy, others are electronica-heavy, and still others breech the trip-hop and funk genres. All of the arrangements are outstanding, with catchy hooks, danceable beats, and the live instruments perfectly in sync with the programmed elements. "Allergic to Gravity" is well-produced, and the louder you play it, the better. "Shizznizzle" has a great arrangement with a quick flute line throughout, a funky bass line, hot beats programming, and an overall consistency throughout. "Everybody Say Ahhhhh" is an electronica-heavy track with extreme danceability and light horns in the background, and features a great trumpet solo against the beats. Overall, "Allergic to Gravity" is an original album that fuses two distinct genres through a great electronic base and excellent jazz accompaniments. Fans of either of these genres should see what jazz-tronica is all about.
