SURREALIST NJ POET INSPIRED TO RAISE $25,000 FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH

Jeff Callahan, a New Jersey based singer-songwriter and poet, will donate all proceeds from the sale of his new CD, Empty Swings, to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a unique foundation that evolved from a young cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer. Empty Swings is a haunting collection of sixteen surrealistic poems, recited by Callahan and singer-songwriter Kathy Phillips and accompanied by the musical compositions of jazz fusion guitarist B.D. Lenz. Influenced by writers like William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S. Thompson and T.S. Eliot, Callahan employs the techniques of surrealist poetry, like automatism, to explore themes such as love, madness, sin, bliss and addiction.

Callahan has previously released two other CDs, Woebegone (2004) and Havens, Haunts and Hollows (2000). Due to a solid mixture of folk and rock with some departures to other styles, Woebegone was well received by college and AAA radio upon its debut with such songs as Courting Delirium, Apple Blossoms and Miss Strange Soul. Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee under the direction of Steve Haggard of Wild Oats Records, Havens, Haunts and Hollows has a spare touch, a thoughtful lyric quality and that dark gothic edge that's found in classic American folk music. Highlights include songs like Two Hundred Miles, as Callahan sings of journeying back to love, and Central Avenue Lullaby, the sad and evocative goodbye of a father to his daughter when her mother returns to take her to a new home far away.

Callahan is currently working on another spoken word CD with jazz composer Greg Federico, as well as, on a rootsy country-rock collaboration with Kathy Phillips. Empty Swings was engineered by Dave Edwards and includes performances by Lenz (guitar), Edwards (upright bass), James Rosocha (electric bass), Geoff Mattoon (saxophone), Tom Cottone (drums), Joe Mekler (percussion) and Daniel Mintseris (piano).

"Salt of the Earth" by Mobetta Loretta (Folk Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

"Salt of the Earth," Mobetta Loretta's latest CD, would be best described as a modern folk album with a dash of southern rock. Yet it is much more than that because it is such an ambitious and creative work; it was recorded as a concept album with all the songs being inspired by the 1954 album also titled "Salt Of The Earth." In "Copper Pit Miner," Mobetta sings to us about being a copper miner in an upbeat, danceable folk-blues song that features great harmonica. "I Am the Salt of the Earth" is a song in which Mobetta opts to croon to us over a pleasant combination of acoustic guitar and string section. For "Local 809" she sings about antiquated union life over a more modern and toe-tapping blues beat. The songs on this album stand up on their own, as they are great contemporary expressions of a past generation; yet when one factors in that each song is part of an overall theme it really adds substance. heartscore has released his next album "touch me"

Many popular musicians have never studied music and composing. They are just playing, what they hear inside and of course the musical world has got great results from them. Here comes one artist ,who has full command of all classical theory and who creates a fertile combination of the popular and the classical approach.
heartscore is the pseudonym for the man behind this studio-project and the new album of heartscore called "Touch me", shows, that a classical background is not a handicap to rock as hell.
Founder and mastermind Dirk Radloff was born in Frankfurt/Germany started to play violin at the age of 5. Later he explored also piano, viola and not to forget electric guitar and bass. After he had finished his violin-studies at the music academy in Frankfurt ,he joined several local bands, but he became more and more frustrated by them. In an interview with Sergio Vilar he complains: " Years ago I took part in a countless number of local bands, so I played live very often. That didn't really satisfy me. My bandmates were either completely unprofessional and turned up stoned at rehearsals two hours late or they were just not prepared properly. Things didn't develop and you just carried your amplifiers from one youthclub to another. So I decided to work on my own 5 years ago."
In 2000 he founded the studio-project "heartscore", which set mostly american poems to music in the manner of an intellectual and progressive Rock-style. With "heartscore" Dirk could realise to arrange and write scores, which had to be played by himself and the other musicians. He could also melt together influences ranging from Led Zeppelin and Yes to modern Jazz and classical music. As a critic wondered: "Who can put this together?". Heartscore could and during the next years the project published three albums, which catched the attention and many compliments from critics. Heartscore featured some very talented musicians like Tim Warweg and Stefan Platte. Almost all recordings and the production was done by Dirk Radloff himself, just the Mastering was given to the talented ears and hands of Ole Kießling at Tonstudio Kießling.
In 2002 heartscore released "Structures", which was named "one cool album" by "Progressiveworld" and it showed Dirk and his classmate Oliver creating a well constructed Hardrock with strong melodies.
In 2004 heartscore hired Session-drummer Tim Warweg and piano-player Stefan Platte to realise the very ambitious work "Straight to the brain". Here the music was influenced by the inner structure of poems resulting in really spectacular and unusual songs. Critics especially acclaimed the use of choirs, which were compared to Yes and Queen, and the creative arrangements.
In 2007 "many directions" surprised the world with some more commercial songs, still basing on composed progressive rock, but now appearing as straight rockers and disco-funk. But the album also include one of the most progressive tracks of heartscore with a full orchestra: "The miller's wife"
Now in 2009 heartscore presents the actual "Touch me", which marks a turn around in the style of heartscore. But let Dirk explain it himself: "Inspired by the relationship to my pretty wife I started two years ago to collect little melodies on my cellphone. You have to imagine: Sometimes I stopped in the middle of a street, switched on the recorder, and sung something, while people around me wondered, what I am doing. Fourteen of these little recordings became basic motifs of "Touch me". During the process of composing I realised, that the new material would not fit to poems, because the songs were much more easy than anything, what I had written before. So I stepped away from the poems, the choirs, the long songs and the progressive style, though there are still progressive elements left. For the first time I use synths and programmed techno-patterns, which are transforming my sound to become more modern and more suitable for more people. All songs were written as full scores using my notation software 'Sibelius' before I thought about how to record everything. I hired again Tim Warweg for the drums to get a natural groove, which nobody can copy with programming. The drum-set was recorded in my bedroom with just two mics. We used very old drums by the manufacturer 'Asba'. The drums are made of steel, a material, which was also preferred by John Bonham . Tim was well prepared and we recorded all fourteen songs in just one day directly to 'garageband'. Basing on the drum-tracks I added the other instruments and the voice step by step."
From the first second "Touch me" surprises with the use of synthesizers, which were never used before on a heartscore-album. The synths are clever arranged with the guitar and the combination gives "Touch me" its special athmosphere somewhere between the old Rock 'n Roll and the young Club. Looking on the first track " I did it" with its mixture of delicate rhythms and straight-forward headbanging sections you can hear influences from slayer to to modern Jazz and you will feel activated to move and the same time to think over the arrangement and meaning of the song. The second track features the wonderful ballad "You are so beautiful" driven by the admiring voice of Dirk, the natural acoustic guitar and the powerful but controlled drumming of Tim.
The third tune "Happiness" kicks the ear from a totally different side: With its four-to-the-floor rhythm and funky bass playing the song looks directly to the dancefloor.
All lyrics are reflecting the bright sides of love, seldomly the problematic sides, and supporting a very smiling and happy mood for any listener.
If you are listening to "Touch me" your ears will melt away, your eyes will blink, your mouth will become hungry and your fingers will long to touch the handcrafted felt-cover, petting in a tender way the whole day over and over it as long as you hear the entire album.

"Number Theory" by Richard Potter (Classic Rock Artist from North Carolina(NC))

"Fun Out of Life" by April Hall (Jazz Artist from Boston, Massachusetts(MA))

"Fun Out of Life" is the most recent release from the fabulous and highly talented Jazz vocalist, April Hall. Hall's voice has the ability to not only be in constant key but also adds considerable spice to each variety of Jazz song she attempts; which range from soulful ballads, to bluesy renditions, to high energy pieces. In "Crazy He Calls Me," April interacts with some well played Jazz piano and just a dash of drums to deliver a mellow tune that shows off how her voice can be warm and inviting. Another song, "Boogie Woogie Blues (I May Be Wrong)" Hall gets a little groovier with a toe tapping, more Bluesy beat accompanied by a dynamic singing style. "Empty Swings" by Jeff Callahan (Spoken Word/Jazz Artist from New Jersey(NJ))

Bringing poetry to life, "Empty Swings," creatively composed by Jeff Callahan brilliantly blends spoken word with Jazz Fusion. Each track features Callahan verbalizing life and nature with a voice that is soft and gentle. Callahan paints pictures with lyrics like "...wildly rummaging through button-down clouds and in pot bellied raindrops smothering the haunted beating of your nightstand clock" on the track "Sweet Dreams Earth." Even though the album is focused around the spoken poems, the instrumental background deserves credit as the cast of musicians deftly perform with emotive tonality. "Bewitched" by Raquy and the Cavemen (World Artist from New York(NY))

Raquy Danzinger has traveled the world and brought back with her the knowledge and skill to compose music with Middle Eastern and Egyptian tonality. "Bewitched," the latest release from Raquy and the Cavemen is a brilliant collection of these cultures and is filled with well crafted songs. This album features Dumbek (Arabic hand drum) and the Iranian Kamanche (an instrument comparable to the violin) creating traditional Middle Eastern music. The tone is very intense throughout the entire album. The Kamanche wails hauntingly over beaten drums on tracks like "Axarai" and the title track "Bewitched." Tracks such as "Metal" feature some virtuoso style drum rhythms and should not be missed. While this is sure to be a great live show, don't miss an opportunity to listen to "Bewitched" as it is an album well worth hearing as well.

Doug Wyatt's release, "The Dream of 'I'" is an amalgam of songs that take on different genres all seen through the eyes of an experienced electronic artist. The album is well recorded and produced, as it needs to be due to the large amounts of ambient and psychedelic sounds that Wyatt uses within his tunes. He has mastered the art of computer-aided music, and this is plainly heard throughout this entire album. On the track, "Thrill of the Chase" we get a toe-tapping beat underneath a spacey yet uplifting piano piece. Then on "Talking Points" one is presented with grittier, more industrial sounds over a thick, driving electric beat. These songs are then juxtaposed with others like "Artifacts and Fantasies" which contain numerous intricate psychedelic sounds, and are devoid of a traditional beat structure altogether. If your ears would appreciate a plethora of electronic instruments and sounds masterly interwoven, or you consider yourself an audiophile and just appreciate diverse sounds, then "The Dream of 'I'" is something you'll want to take in.

Alan Bernhoft more than accomplished his intended goal with his recent album, "Beatlesque Too." The British Invasion sound from the early sixties made popular by The Beatles is alive and well on this album. Bernhoft captures the twangy guitars, the easy flowing harmonies, and simple drum beats with ease. The bouncy song, "All of the Time" features a solid harmonica solo while vocals and harmonies are exceptional. The last track "Come On Baby" is an obvious call to "Twist and Shout," the popular Beatles cover. "Grandma Mary's Latin Rock" by Mary Ho (Latin/Blues Artist from Singapore)

"Grandma Mary's Latin Rock," from the 71-year-old Mary Ho, is a release filled mostly with calm and mellow renditions of popular songs. The background instrumentation is relatively simple throughout the album, yet it is professional and not overbearing. This is because the focus of this instrumental album, is on Mary's articulate and skilled guitar playing. On "Black Magic Woman" we really get a sense of Mary's bluesy side as she plays with soul and gusto. On "Apache" we are presented with a quasi-soothing western song in which she lets her guitar sing out in a lovely fashion. On the final track, "Canon Rock," Grandma Mary rips out some hot rock lead guitar riffs! This album is filled with numerous genres and sounds; it is for the most part a tranquil album, with some rockers mixed in as well. You will appreciate this album if you want to be inspired by an album that demonstrates that a love for music is a lifelong passion.

Her playing on this CD is very emotional and is clearly the work of an accomplished pianist. The emotion is brought into these performances in part, by the effective use of dynamics. "Two Rondinos, Op. 68: I and II" are great examples of the feeling put into these works. They have power drawn from the romantic era but the structured beauty of the Classical. Heidi Saario's "Jean Sibelius - Compositions for Piano" is full of beauty and feeling that shines through in this recording.

Imagine if the members of The Cure decided to replace lead singer Robert Smith with a sexy female vocalist. If you can't, then perhaps listening to "Whitelite Britelite" by Auradrone will help you see the big picture. Hailing from Los Angeles, the band is fronted by the very talented Jon Mack. Her vocals are filled with tasty lyrics and sex appeal to the max. Just give a good listen to songs like "Auto Erotic" and "A Channel," and listeners will be able to hear her vocals at their best. The band is also very good and is great at changing the style of songs while still keeping that "Auradrone" sound throughout it all. "Indigo Child" is both classic 80's and super erotic at the same time, so be sure to give that track a few spins. If you love The Cure or the sound they represent, give Auradrone's "Whitelite Britelite" a good listen.
